Blog 9 from Outer Space

The Houston Chronicle is considered by some to be the most weblog-friendly newspaper in the nation. They even feature reader blogs. To me, that seems like a "no-brainer" for getting readers more involved, and who knows, it might even be fun too!  Well, unless you  think that the readers are all morons and need to be spoon-fed . I mean I still eat baby food, but only from a spoon that is connected to my own hand. (At least that's what they have been telling me here at the "office".)

But hey, look, I admit I'm not the brightest guy in the solar system and my mind is less than stellar. So if you thought I would be starting a reader blog about wine-in-a-box or something, fear not. ( Besides, my grammar is atrocious (My grammar, not my grandma silly.)) It's just nice to read stuff from folks other than fancy journalists from time to time, and it makes for a vibrant community, me thinks. (I threw some Shakespeare in there, haha.)

Anyway, one of the reader blogs at the Houston Chronicle is called Blog 9 from Outer Space by a guy that used to (still does?) write for Film Threat. What's it about? Mostly bad movies. It's pretty hilarious and you might like it.

Over and out.

King Dork movie

Dr. Frank talks about the recent acquisition of 'King Dork' film rights by Will Ferrel.

I've yet to read this one. Gotta do it.

Sterogum weblog has been featuring a weblog tour of the book.

Pony Ex Press

Boy how times have changed. All this electronic mail and interwebnetosphere gadgetry sure is interesting , to say the least. I was recently reading an article about the popularity of the Chad Vader YouTube series (among others) and was reminded of the fact that "...not long ago, when, if you wanted to edit your homemade movie, you'd need two VHS players and a pair of scissors. You could add a soundtrack by walking your VHS cassette over to that friend with a $50,000 Avid editing system."  True story.

Anyway, last friday we just completed a road project on Highway 50 in El Dorado county. The above photograph was taken at the Sportsman's Hall in Pollock Pines,California.

The Sportsman's Hall  was one of the many waypoints between Sacramento,California and St. Joseph, Missouri for the riders of the Pony Express. I like the names of some of stations along the way: Yanks, Fifteen Mile House, Split Rock ,etc. Sir Richard Burton writes of some of the stations along the way and it is quite mesmerizing (hmmm quite. No, really):

      Green River Station

"The station had the indescribable scent of a Hindu village, which appears to be the result from  burning of bois du vache and a few cows which were so lively it was impossible to milk them.We supped comfortably on salmon, trout, buffalo-berry jelly and 'Valley Tan' whiskey."

I often wonder about  the men and women from the past and how they would react to the radical changes in global communication ( as well as other conveniences). I think that there is little doubt that they would be plenty bewildered and awe-struck.  But I'm sure some folks did sense a feeling of what was unfolding. And that's my stupid observation of the day. Goodbye.

Interview w/ Jack Grisham from TSOL ( you remember them, don't you? Good, because I don't.)

Neil Hamburger Poolside Chats.  I don't know why they have to curse so much.  It's a vulgar interview -- gladhanders...all of em.
